This class is literacy and numeracy centered. It prepares learners to enter the regular CLB stream by addressing wide-ranging learning skills related to reading, writing and math. CLB 1 Listening and Speaking tasks are practiced to attend to learners’ immediate survival needs. This course is best suited to learners who are illiterate in their first language or have no knowledge or English phonology and/or the Roman alphabet. Examples of course content: Produce the alphabet orally and in writing and match letters to their sounds; begin to recognize common words; develop copying accuracy; learn about sequence, directionality, and format; acquire learning skills and learn how to use tools; become familiar with currency, temperature, measurement, and elementary operations. Currently this class is delivered online due to Covid 19 until further notice.
